A GREAT CIRCLE

Neighborly curiosity first brought filmmaker and Director of Monmouth University’s Production Services, Erin Fleming, to the Cathleen Malpass Gallery space built on the site of Michael’s former studio. That chance encounter in 2013 inspired Erin to craft the story of Michael Malpass and his family through documentary film. Three years later the film A Great Circle premiered during a retrospective of Malpass works at the university’s Center for the Arts.

In science, a great circle divides the sphere into two equal hemispheres. As the film unveils, Michael’s life had two equal parts/passions, his art and his family. After spending the last several years on the film festival circuit, we are grateful that Erin has now made the documentary available for us to share with you here. Enjoy!
